English Premier League (EPL) Manchester City’s ‘monster striker’ Erling Holland (23) challenges to win the EPL Player of the Year and Young Player awards at the same time in his first season.
On the 19th (Korean time), the EPL unveiled the candidates for the ‘EPL Awards’, consisting of the Player of the Year Award, Young Player Award, and Manager Award, on its website.
Haaland was nominated for both the Player of the Year Award, which is considered the best player in a season, and the Young Player Award, which is considered the best player under the age of 23. There has never been a case where a player swept the Player of the Year and Young Player awards before.
However, it is a challenge that is fully possible for Holland. Haaland, who transferred from Borussia Dortmund (Germany) ahead of this season, flew right away without having to adapt to the new stage.
Haaland announced his strong presence by scoring multiple goals from the opening game, and has scored 36 goals in 33 games, showing phenomenal scoring power.
Previously, the most goals in a single EPL season was 34 goals held by Andy Cole and Alan Shearer, but ‘transfer student’ Holland quickly surpassed it. Even Haaland still has three more games left this season.
In terms of record achievement and impact, it is so overwhelming that there are virtually no competitors.
Along with Haaland, players nominated for the Player of the Year award are Kevin De Bruyne (Man City), Harry Kane (Tottenham), Martin Odegaard (Arsenal), Marcus Rashford (Man United), Bukayo Saka (Arsenal), Kieran Trippier (Arsenal). Newcastle) are seven.
Among them, Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka were also nominated for the Young Player of the Year award following the Player of the Year award along with Haaland.
In addition, Sven Boatman (Newcastle), Moses Caseido (Brighton), Alexander Isaac (Newcastle), Alexis McCallister (Brighton) and Gabriel Martinelli (Arsenal) are competing for the title of best young player.
Fan voting will continue until the 23rd through the EPL website, and the results will be released on the 28th by combining fan voting and soccer expert panel opinions.
